GKS(Global Korea Scholarship)는 국립국제교육원(NIIED)에서 운영하는 한국정부초청 장학금으로, 대학원 입학 전형과는 별도의 절차를 통해 장학생을 선발합니다.

1. 대학전형(University Track)
대학전형(University Track)의 경우, 대학원 입시 지원 서류를 제출하였더라도 GKS 장학금 심사용 서류를 제출하지 않거나 GKS 신청 의사가 명확히 표시되지 않은 경우 GKS 장학금 신청으로 간주되지 않습니다.

GKS 장학금 신청을 희망하는 지원자는 원칙적으로 일반대학원 1차 모집에 지원하여야 합니다.

Overview of the GKS Program
The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) is a Korean Government Scholarship Program administered by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED). The GKS selection process is separate from the Sejong University Graduate School admission process. Applicants who wish to apply for the GKS must first apply to and receive admission approval from Sejong University’s Graduate School. Only applicants who are admitted to the Graduate School are eligible to be finally selected as GKS scholars.

Eligibility
Applicants who apply for the 1st Round of Admission for the 2026 Fall Semester at Sejong University Graduate School and are applying for either the GKS University Track or the Embassy Track.

Important Note for Embassy Track Applicants
Even if applicants apply for the GKS through the Embassy Track, the admission screening process for Sejong University Graduate School is conducted separately. Therefore, Embassy Track applicants must also apply for the 1st Round of Admission for the 2026 Fall Semester at Sejong University Graduate School.
Passing the Embassy Track alone does not automatically guarantee admission to Sejong University Graduate School. Applicants must receive admission approval through the university’s graduate admission screening process.

Relationship Between Graduate Admission and GKS Application
1. University Track
For the University Track, submitting an application for graduate admission does not automatically constitute a GKS application. Applicants who fail to submit the required GKS screening documents or do not clearly indicate their intention to apply for the GKS scholarship will not be considered GKS applicants.
2. Embassy Track
For the Embassy Track, GKS application documents must be submitted to the Korean Embassy or Consulate in the applicant’s country. Applicants only need to submit admission documents required for Sejong University Graduate School admission to Sejong University.

Embassy Track applicants must submit GKS application documents according to the instructions of the Korean Embassy or Consulate in their country.
1. Graduate School Admission Documents
Purpose: Admission screening for Sejong University Graduate School
Who must submit: All applicants to the general graduate school
Submission period: During the 1st-round application period (Tentative: March 9 – March 24, 2026)

Purpose: Internal university screening for GKS candidate nomination
Who must submit: Applicants who wish to apply for the GKS scholarship
Submission period: Same as the Graduate School 1st-round application period (Tentative: March 9 – March 24, 2026)
○ The graduate admission application and the GKS scholarship application are separate procedures with different evaluation purposes.
○ Some documents may be used commonly for both screenings.
○ Applicants wishing to apply for the GKS must submit GKS screening documents together with their graduate admission documents. Both should be submitted at the same time; however, the admission documents and GKS documents must be clearly separated.
○ All GKS documents must be clearly labeled as “For GKS Application”.
○ Documents that are not clearly distinguished may not be recognized as GKS application materials.

3. GKS Second-Round Screening Documents (NIIED)
Purpose: Final GKS selection by NIIED
Who must submit: GKS candidates who pass the university’s first screening
(Note: Documents will be forwarded to NIIED only for candidates selected by the university.)
Submission timing: Must be submitted in advance to the university at the time of the first-round graduate application
○ Due to the tight schedule of the NIIED second-round screening, applicants must prepare and submit all required second-round documents in advance at the time of initial application.
○ All documents must be originals that fully meet the requirements of both the Sejong University Graduate School Admission Guidelines and the NIIED GKS Application Guidelines, including notarization, certified translation, apostille, or consular verification, where applicable.
○ Even if an applicant fails the Graduate School 1st-round admission screening, all submitted GKS-related documents will not be returned under any circumstances.
○ If the applicant passes the first-round graduate admission and is selected as a GKS candidate, the submitted original documents will be forwarded to NIIED for the second-round screening. Sejong University will retain certified true copies of the submitted originals.
○ Some documents (e.g., graduation certificates, transcripts, family relationship certificates) may be used commonly for both admission and GKS screening. In such cases, the same original documents may be submitted, provided they are clearly marked as GKS materials.

Application Policy and Important Restrictions
Applicants wishing to apply for the GKS must apply during the Graduate School 1st-round admission period.
GKS candidates are nominated through the university’s internal screening process.
Applicants to the 2nd-round Graduate School admission are not eligible to apply for the GKS.
Applicants who are not admitted in the 1st-round admission may apply for the 2nd-round admission through the general track, but cannot apply for the GKS scholarship.

GKS applicants are exempt from the admission application fee for Sejong University Graduate School.
However, in order for the application to be properly processed in the system, applicants must complete and save all steps in the online application system up to the stage immediately before payment, and then send an email.
The email must include the applicant’s name and One-Stop Service Center (SOS) account ID.
