Maeng Il-do, an alumnus of the Graduate School of Industry, Hospitality and Tourism Department, won the grand prize at "The Master World Bartending Championship 2025" held in Phuket, Thailand.
"The Master World Bartending Championship 2025" is one of the five major global bartending competitions held in Asia, drawing participants not only from Southeast and Central Asia but also from Latin America and various European countries.
The competition took place from May 19 to 23 in Phuket, Thailand's premier resort destination, and brought together 66 world-class bartenders from 17 countries who competed through three intense stages to determine the final winner.
Maeng Il-do secured first place in both the Mystery Bag Challenge and the Creative Cocktail Challenge, earning a total of three titles in the competition.
He is currently serving as the manager and head bartender at The Griffin Bar at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul. After earning his master’s degree in Hotel, Tourism and Food Service Management from the Graduate School of Industry last year, he was selected this year as Korea’s national representative for global bartending competitions.
He commented, “I’m delighted to have been able to revitalize the domestic hotel bar industry,” and added, “I will continue to do my best to represent Korea on the global stage as a world-class bartender.”
