Sejong University Selected as the Lead Institution for a National Green Restoration Project

Large-scale national projects to train and cultivate next-generation experts in the fields of climate, energy, and the environment will be implemented, which are centered on Sejong University. Sejong University has been selected as the lead institution for the project for Fostering Graduate Schools Specialized in the Environmental Field (Green Restoration), which is supported by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI) under the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment.

 

This large-scale human resource development project will be conducted from December 2025 to December 2030 for 5 years,  which an annual budget of KRW 800 million of a total budget of KRW 4 billion will be invested.

 

Professor Heo Jin from the Department of Environmental Energy Convergence at Sejong University will serve as a project manager, and Professors Hong Seong-wook, Jeong Seul-gi, Noh Jun-seong, Lee Young-soo, Lee Yoon-kyung, and Lee In-ok will play key roles. Professors Kwon Hyun-han and Maeng Seung-gyu from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering will also participate in the project in order to strengthen interdisciplinary integration and linkage to practices. 

 

Sejong University will lead the overall planning, curriculum design, and operation of the project as well as serve as a control tower for training talented individuals in the field of green restoration. Kongju National University will also participate in the project, and Professors Kim Lee-hyung, Yang Geum-cheol, and Lee Jeong-hyeon from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering will be supporting regional-based empirical research and educational collaboration.

 

A key feature of the project is a consortium-based convergence curriculum that is centered on Sejong University. It is planned to systematically cultivate experts with practical capabilities in the green restoration field using AI technologies by actively introducing specialized education at the basic and advanced stages as well as industry-linked projects. Sejong University is in particular expected to further strengthen its educational and research competitiveness in the fields f climate change response, environmental restoration, and sustainable green growth by annually producing more than 20 experts at the master's and doctoral levels.

 

The Project is expected to create significant momentum for Sejong University's advancement as a key hub in the fields of green restoration and the convergence of environment and energy.
