Sejong University Selected for Excellent Safety Management Laboratories for Two Consecutive Years

Sejong University’s Department of Environmental Convergence Engineering’s Marine Ecology and Climate Change Adaptation Lab, which is supervised by Professor Noh Jun‑seong, and the Department of Smart Life Industry Convergence’s Genetic Big Data Lab, which is supervised by Professor Kim Kyung‑do, were selected as Excellent Safety Management Laboratories certification audit for the 2025 academic year, which was supervised by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The Safety Management Excellence Lab Certification System, which is a 2-year certification, is a system that grants certifications through audit by experts when the laboratory's safety management level and activities are excellent in order to strengthen autonomous safety management capabilities in science and technology laboratories that are established at universities and research institutes as well as promote the development and dissemination of safety management standard models.
Laboratories should score at least 80% in various categories, which include the lab's safety environment system, safety activity level, and safety awareness, in order to obtain certification. 2 labs from Sejong University obtained the certification due to their systematic safety management systems and ongoing efforts to spread the safety culture.
Sejong University has in particular produced excellent labs for 2 consecutive years, which includes 2 additional labs being added this year in addition to 2 labs that were selected as excellent safety management labs last year. This proved once again that the safety management system of labs at the university level is stably settling down.
Sejong University plans to continuously advance its lab safety management system with the momentum of this achievement to create a sustainable research environment, expand education, and support programs in order to raise the safety awareness among researchers.
This is expected to contribute to improving research outcomes and strengthening the research competitiveness of the university by actively supporting researchers in regards to focusing on their research in a safe and comfortable environment.
