On April 22, Professor Graziano Rossi from the Department of Physics and Astronomy and his students visited the residence of the Italian Ambassador in Hannam-dong, Seoul, to attend a reception commemorating "Worldwide Italian Research Day".
This event was organized in honor of the birthday of Rita Levi-Montalcini, a renowned Italian neurobiologist and recipient of the 1986 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The purpose of the event was to celebrate both diplomatic engagement and scientific achievement, with a particular focus on inspiring young women to take an interest in the field of diplomacy.
From Sejong University, five students participated along with Professor Rossi: Yoo Ho-kyun, Kim Dong-hyun (Department of Physics and Astronomy, Class of 2019), Lee Dong-hyun, Yoon In-gyu, and Song Soo-yeon (Department of Physics and Astronomy, Class of 2022). The students had the opportunity to interact directly with Emilia Gatto, the Italian Ambassador to Korea, and took part in various activities hosted at the embassy throughout the day on April 22. It was a meaningful occasion for the students to learn about Italian science, culture, and international diplomacy.
Professor Rossi shared his thoughts, saying, “It was deeply meaningful to offer students the opportunity to experience the international diplomatic stage firsthand. I hope this experience serves as a positive inspiration for students as they consider their future careers.”
Song Soo-yeon, one of the participating students (Department of Physics and Astronomy, Class of 2022), commented, “Meeting various people working for the advancement of both countries made me realize the importance of international exchange and the need for a broad perspective as a university student. I hope to become a person who bridges Korea and the world in the future.”
